The French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) The French Biodiversity Agency (OFB)
The French Biodiversity Agency (OFB) was created by law on 1st January 2020 (Law no. 2019-773 of 24 July 2019) to protect and restore biodiversity in Metropolitan France and its Overseas Territories. It is a public institution under the authority of the ministries responsible for Ecology and Agriculture & Food. 5 complementary roles: - Sharing knowledge, research and expertise about species, habitats and their uses - Environmental and wildlife health policing - Supporting the implementation of public policies - Assisting and supporting protected natural area managers - Supporting stakeholders and mobilising civil society. The Marine Nature Park of Arcachon Basin was created by decree on June 5, 2014, to implement concerted management to protect marine environments. It is supported by local governance, the Management Council, made up of local stakeholders. To develop its expertise and action, it relies on a team and resources allocated by the French Biodiversity Agency. Its mission is to preserve the natural and cultural wealth of the area, to improve knowledge of the marine environment and to promote the sustainable development of sea-related activities (https://parc-marin-bassin-arcachon.fr/)
Ifremer Ifremer
Ifremer is the French research institute dedicated entirely to knowledge of the ocean and ocean-related activities. Through its scientific and technological research, innovations and expertise, Ifremer contributes to protecting and restoring the ocean, sustainably managing marine resources and environments, and sharing marine data and information. Ifremer is involved in national, European and international scientific programs and initiatives.
The University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour The University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour
Located between the sea and the mountains, along the Spanish border, University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (UPPA) welcomes about 13,000 students on 5 campuses in 3 departments: Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées and Landes. Labelled “Science, Innovation, Territories, Economy Initiative” (I-SITE) by the French government, the UPPA is therefore one of 17 French universities of excellence, confirming the efficiency of its transformation to achieve its goal of being in line with energy, environmental and societal transitions.
The University of Bordeaux The University of Bordeaux
The University of Bordeaux, is a multidisciplinary university with deep regional roots that reach out to the European and international level. It is now striving to rise to the challenge of environmental and societal transitions and improve the well-being of its entire community. The "Environments and Paleo-environments of Oceanic and Continental Systems" Joint Research Unit (UMR 5805 EPOC) is a research laboratory jointly affiliated with the CNRS, the University of Bordeaux, and Bordeaux INP, involving chemists, physicists, biologists, and modelers. Its expertise covers continental, coastal, and littoral ecosystems and geosystems, spanning fields from coastal hydro-sedimentology to ecotoxicology, including environmental chemistry, ecology, ecophysiology, geochemistry, hydrology, biogeochemistry, and paleoclimatology. EPOC's research activities aim to study the functioning and dysfunction of aquatic ecosystems (freshwater, coastal, and marine). Over the past decade, the research unit has focused its efforts on natural aquatic ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on estuaries and coastal areas, which serve as crucial transition zones of significant economic and biological importance.
New Aquitaine Region New Aquitaine Region
New Aquitaine Region is a leader in innovation, research and higher education. Its ambitions: Enhance the region's academic and scientific potential as part of a dynamic of excellence; Combat territorial inequalities in higher education and research; Structure networks of associated research and higher education forces to respond to major societal challenges; Develop the determinants of innovation in the region; Help citizens better understand science, its applications and their impact on society. The organization of symposium in New Aquitaine contributes to several of these ambitions, and through this support, the Region hopes in particular to encourage interaction between researchers and the region's citizens and socio-economic stakeholders.
