Conference (September, 8-9) > Keynote speakersKwang-Sik Choi is a professor of the Department of Marine Life Science, Jeju National University (JNU) in South Korea. As a shellfish biologist, Kwang-Sik has been working on various topics in molluscan biology, including the effects of environmental impacts and parasitic infections on the reproductive physiology and immune function of oysters, clams, and abalones. Kwang-Sik received his MS and Ph.D. from Dept. Oceanography, Texas A&M University (1987 and 1993), joined JNU in 1995. He is a fellow of the Korean Academy of Marine Science and an associate editor of the Ocean Science Journal and the Frontiers in Marine Science. He is also an active member of the National Shellfish Association (USA) and the Korean Society of Oceanography. In the 2015 World Aquaculture Society (WAS) annual meeting in Jeju, South Korea, Kwang-Sik acted as the steering committee chair for the WAS. He also served as the steering committee chair for the 9th International Abalone Symposium held in Yeosu Korea in 2015. RESEARCH AREAS: Shellfish Reproductive Biology, Pathology of Marine Mollusks, Marine Environmental Ecology ************************************************************************************* Doctor Satoshi Watanabe is currently the Director of the Coastal and Inland Fisheries Ecosystems Division, in the Environment and Fisheries Applied Techniques Research Department, Fisheries Technology Institute at Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (FRA), located in Yokohama, Kanagawa Japan. He has served as a research scientist, group leader and director at Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency (2002-2008, 2014-present), research scientist at Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (2008-2014) and visiting scientist at Aquaculture Department of Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center in the Philippines (2009-2014). RESEARCH AREAS: Feeding ecology of aquatic organisms in relation to the environment, Development of environmentally sustainable aquaculture techniques.
